HATHERLEIGH Carnival Committee has decided to go ahead with a carnival spectacular on November 10 to raise the spirits of the local community.
After all the 'sorrow and misery' of foot and mouth, the committee said there was no option but to carry on and organise the carnival.
Committee member Louise Bater said: 'We felt the community needed to have something happy and positive to focus on.'
An appeal is now going out for Carnival Queen candidates who have to be aged 12 or over, live in the parish of Hatherleigh, Meeth or Highampton and be willing to sell draw tickets. Queens may stand on behalf of a local organisation which means they would receive a large percentage of any carnival profits.
Louise added: 'If any would like to be a carnival queen candidate but is put off at the thought of making a float do not fear because the committee are always on hand to give help or advice.'
