ORGANISATIONS in the Bere Peninsula were given a cash boost recently after receiving donations from the Bere Alston Carnival Committee.
Following its recent annual meeting, the carnival committee donated £1,200 to groups in the area. The committee made donations of £200 each to Bere Alston Rainbows, the Skate Park Fund, the Holy Trinity Church Hall Refurbishment Fund, the Junior Sailing Club towards a new dinghy, Bere Ferrers Zip Slide repair and the Bere Alston School Gardening Scheme.
The carnival committee is a not for profit organisation founded in 1995 and run by a committee of volunteers. The group was set up to help raise funds for local organisations based on the Bere Peninsula, and also to provide several fun events throughout the year such as the carnival, fun day and the Christmas Victorian Evening.
The committee also supplies and maintains the hanging baskets and Christmas trees in Fore Street and the Parish Hall, hosts musical events, bingo evenings and a monthly mini market.
The carnival committee expressed its continued appreciation to those that assist the committee members in running events and also to all those that continue to support the committee by attending the various events throughout the year.
The next event is a dance with the Texans Dance Band, on October 29, from 7.30pm to 11.30pm at Bere Alston Parish Hall.
