THE owners of Aalen House Nursing Home in Okehampton have prepared plans for a new state-of-the-art, 60 bed care home on the site of its old building at Parklands.
PSP Healthcare, the Bristol-based company which owns the nursing home, says it will invest £7m in this new care facility, which would include all bedrooms to be fully en-suite, feature smart lighting technology and nurse call facilities for residents with dementia.
The new facility would include a cinema room, hair and beauty salons as well as wi-fi internet and web cams for relatives to stay in touch with residents.
Jan Hazell, clinical lead manager for PSP, said: 'All staff in the new home will carry a mobile DECT handset.
'This will give them a discreet text alert when a resident seeks assistance.
'By doing away with the traditional loud bells of a care home we can create a more peaceful and domestic environment for residents to live in.'
PSP's directors and architects are now in consultation with planning officers at West Devon Borough Council to work on a submission for the new care home, before it goes before the council's planning committee.
