A PROPOSAL for a new care home in Okehampton was deferred by West Devon planners this week, so a site visit can take place.
Barnfield Commercial wants to demolish a private dwelling and outbuildings at Rondor, North Street and build a two storey, 60 bedroom care home.
West Devon Borough Council has received 24 letters of objection against the proposal from local residents, who are concerned about the 'over supply of care homes in the locality', increased traffic and feel that the development is out of character with the area.
But planning officers have recommended that the outline plans be approved, and say it would be difficult to refuse as it is a brownfield site.
