DEVON County Council is to extend its Fare Car initiative to a further 40 parishes, following its success as a pilot scheme in Bere Ferrers.

The service, which provides customers with door-to-door transport at bus fare prices, will now be aimed at other isolated parishes thanks to government funding of £471,000.

Bere Ferrers borough councillor, Christine Grills said the pilot scheme had been a success.

'We are pleased with the response and we have several people who use the service regularly,' she said.

'But we could do with a service during the day so people don't have to wait too long to get home from Tavistock.'
