IT has been a busy week at Okehampton Golf Club, with the change over of captains. Friday was the annual Christmas supper and draw with the inauguration of the captain of the club. The evening was a great success with the outgoing captain, Barry Hodges, handing over to John Rattenbury (pictured left), who incidentally is the father of next year's junior section captain Jonny Rattenbury, who takes over from this year's very successful Rachel Spry. On Monday, although too wet for any golf to be played, the veterans' section held their annual meeting with the present captain Danny James handing over to Dave Gibson. Wednesday saw the ladies playing an American Greensomes held over 15 holes. This competition was won by Pam Jarman and Lorna Rolfe with 28 pts, second was Penny Deakin and Pat Kirby on 26 and third was Mo Huggins and Sylvia Caunter on 24. This was followed by their Christmas lunch, which was a huge success with a great deal of fun and laughter. Saturday's competition was a fourball better ball Stableford. In lovely dry, if cold, weather some excellent scores were recorded. Winning division one with 47pts were the brothers Lee and Gary Carey, in second place were Martin Coxand Richard Murrin with 45, third were Kevin Cornwall and Barry Coaker on 42 and fourth were Graham Moysey and Evan Rees. Winning division two were Mike Lang and Steve Gregory with 44 pts, second Paul Skidmore and Russell Dibble 43, last nine, third were Tony Beer and Stuart Lewis and fourth with 41 were Steve Cook and Nick Godfrey.
