Tavistock Seconds v Plymouth Civil Service THE decision to travel through the rain to Plymouth proved a fruitful one for an under-strength Tavistock side. A late start resulted in a 34 over a side match. Tavistock captain John McGahey won the toss and put Civil into bat. After a brisk start Simon Gliddon?s accurate bowling broke through, bowling Civil?s Jan Walaszkowski for 20. He also claimed Dent?s wicket (25) and Civil were 80 for two with 14 overs left. This was a strong position, but accurate spells from Jefferys (2-44) and Mills on his debut (2-34) restricted Civil to only 163. The Tavistock reply was soon in trouble when Rich chased a wide ball and was caught behind for seven. Then came the partnership of 112 that won the game. Dave Downham, after a sticky start, got going and hit a timely 49. Captain John McGahey smashed his way to a memorable 74, including a six over extra cover to the longest boundary. When he was out Tavistock needed only 19 to win. This they did with five balls to spare. This gives Tavistock a needed boost before the visit of Hatherleigh this week.
