Okehampton U15s 32

Sidmouth U15s 0

PLAYING with the wind in the first half Okehampton pressured Sidmouth into their 22.

A clearance kick was caught by full back Phil Woods and run straight back through the tackles. Held up seven metres short the Okehampton pack formed a maul and drove Woods over for the try.

Minutes later, Sidmouth broke through Okehampton?s tackles and were certain of the score before Woods wrapped up the player metres short of the try line.

Clearing their lines Okehampton were soon in attack again with Simon Cox and Tom Bird linking well and driving the hard yards. Okehampton passed quickly from the ensuing scrum and Richard Bolt forced his way through the Sidmouth centres to score under the posts for a converted try.

Sidmouth tackled well and unable to break through the defence Andy Herrod-Taylor hoisted an up and under and gave chase with Stewart Down, Simon Cox and Alun Williams.

Pressurising the defenders with quick tackles the ball went loose and Down grabbed the try which was duly converted to give Okehampton a 19-0 lead at the break.

Bolt left the field injured at half-time and Sidmouth rallied, using the wind well.

Ian Brooks saved a certain score by racing back and falling on the ball then keeping his feet until support arrived.

The home side dominated the half, scoring two unconverted tries. A rare breakout by Okehampton led to a penalty 30 metres out in midfield. Andy Herrod-Taylor took the three points to add to his two conversions.

Excellent defensive play, particularly by captain Cox who held up many tries, denied the home side any more scores.
