FOLLOWING the success of the Okehampton community musical Carnival Capers, which played to packed houses in April, there will soon be another chance to enjoy a vital part of the show. A concert featuring songs and music from Carnival Capers by members of the cast and chorus will be held at Bridestowe Methodist Church on Friday June 13, at 7pm. The musical, which was developed by West Devon- based folk arts charity Wren Music and the Ockment Centre, with a large cast of keen local people, takes its inspiration from the history and people of Okehampton, and Dartmoor myths and legends. One of the more unusual aspects of the project is that the participants themselves wrote all the songs and music, in collaboration with professional composer and songwriter Paul Wilson from Wren Music. Tickets for the concert are £5 for adults and £2 for under 16s. There are also special family tickets at £12 for two adults and two children. Light refreshments are included in the price. Tickets are available now from Bridestowe Post Office, or from Wren Music, 1 St James Street, Okehampton, EX20 1DW — in the passageway behind St James' Chapel — from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. Proceeds from the concert tickets will be shared between the Bridestowe Church Ceiling Fund and Wren. A CD recording of songs from Carnival Capers by the original cast from the show has been made, and will be available at the concert. Alternatively, it can be purchased from Wren Music for £5 — if ordering by post, please add £1.50 for postage and packing, and make your cheque payable to Wren.
