LAMERTON began their league season with a hard fought win over local rivals Calstock.
Lamerton had the better of the early play but were foiled on several occasions by fine saves by the visitors' keeper.
Calstock were dangerous on the break and took the lead late in the first half when Sean Hartley outpaced the defence to score a good individual goal.
The home side upped the pace in the second half and took the lead through two goals by Sean Cann and a Paul Cowling header. Calstock replied when Ian Cooke beat the offside trap but Cann made the game safe late on, completing his hat-trick.
It was a good all-round performance from the home side with Sean Cann, Andy Williams and stand-in keeper Jimmy Cole excelling. Both sides produced an entertaining match in conditions more suitable for cricket.
