STAFF at Wingletang Animal Rescue and Re-homing Centre are appealing to the public to consider adopting a rescue cat as more and more animals are signed over to the charity.
Kirsty White, animal welfare worker at Wingletang, said: 'We have seen an inrease in the number of animals coming in to our centre in recent months, including many affectionate and beautiful cats in need of loving homes.
'There's Annie and Tiny Tim, two British shorthair cats who are about eight years old and came in together. At first they were very nervous of people, but we have put a lot of work in to helping to build their confidence.
'Tiny Tim is still a little shy but getting better every day and he loves a scratch under the chin! Annie is a poppet, very affectionate and looks after him.
'They are fantastic characters and would make great pets in a calm home.'
Kirsty said there are currently 20 cats at the centre, as well as a waiting list of around eighty.
'All of the cats we have in at the moment would make a great addition to a household, including cheeky Suzi and Simon. They are very friendly and love to play so we have made a play area for them in the cattery and they love it! They are so affectionate and really deserve a home to call their own.'
Wingletang staff have put together a sponsored event in order to help their increasing costs. Tri-4-Rescue will take place on September 1 and participants have the chance to walk, cycle or horse ride for rescue.
'If people are unable to adopt a cat, we are really hoping they will sign up to take part or will sponsor our triathlon event. Just a couple of pounds of sponsorship can make all the difference to the rescue animals in our care.'
Wingletang is part of Margaret Green Animal Rescue, the oldest and largest animal welfare charity founded in Dorset. It receives no government funding and relies heavily on public support to care for more than 1,200 animals each year.
