AGE Concern in Okehampton has won a £2,000 grant to help older people to surf the net ? but is now appealing for volunteers to help them coach these people during the Silvers Surfers Festival in October.
Chief officer, Barrie Duke, said the group was working with the festival to offer free taster sessions.
?This is an opportunity for those who use computers to let others share their enthusiasm,? he said.
The new centre in Crediton Road will be open for taster sessions for internet browsing, emailing and for demonstrations of digital photography, web cams, virus precautions and help with computer problems.
?We are hoping to find a small number of volunteers of any age, who have basic computer knowledge and who could give some of their time to help others learn a little about the Internet, computers and the way families can keep in touch around the world,? said Mr Duke.
