DO you have an interest in history? A desire to work in publicity and marketing? A passion for human rights? Or just a clean driving licence and the commitment to help people in your local area? If any of these describes you, then the volunteer centre in Okehampton may be able to tell you about just the opportunity you?ve been looking for. Voluntary positions currently being advertised though the centre include: l Publicity and marketing officer for the Sticklepath Fireshow ? one of the largest annual community arts events in the South West. The job will involve helping to write press releases, sell adverts, compile flyers and programmes, and answer questions from the press. l The National Trust is currently advertising for voluntary room stewards to work either once a work or once a fortnight, from 11am until 5.30pm, or over lunchtime. l The Museum of Dartmoor Life is keen to hear from people with an interest in history ? the museum needs volunteers to help it run throughout its summer opening season. l Drivers aged 25 and over with a clean licence are desperately needed by Okehampton Community Transport Group to help drive people to and from doctor and hospital appointments. l The?Appropriate Adult Volunteer? scheme is looking for volunteers to support young people and vulnerable adults who find themselves in custody. Sue Bizley at the Volunteer Centre said: ?This is certainly not the average 9-5 volunteering role. You will be an integral part of the team, sitting in on interviews, liaising with solicitors, doctors, nurses, police officers and custody staff.?
