THE weather may have been a bit chilly but the reception received by attendees of this year’s Callington Carnival was far from frosty, writes Joe Buncle.
People flocked to the annual event either as spectators of or participants in the much anticipated float competition.
As the Jazz band played, the town was alive with entertainment including a spectacular magic show in St Mary’s Square.
Karen Gold of the Callington Carnival Committee said: ‘It was an excellent event displaying the lovely community spirit of Callington.
‘It was clear how much hard work and passion went into making it such a special day — it was so nice to see the community come together!”
Judges, among them Callington Lion’s Club’ president Emma Worth and carnival committee member Mark Smith, were impressed with the standard of entry this year.
The competition saw the Callington Bowling Club triumph with their striking human bowling pin display, in which they marched the streets, stopping occasionally to knock one another down.
The float competition was won by ‘New Outlook’ in the adult catagory and the ‘Glee Club’ secured victory in the children’s section.
