Friendly Callington 1 Tavistock 9 AS hard as Tavistock tried to make a game of this against a plucky Callington side, from the kick off this looked to be a mismatch. The outcome was a 9-1 mauling, however, neither manager will have gained much from this encounter for the forthcoming new season. That it took nearly 30 minutes for Tavistock to open the scoring is testament to their disjointed performance. From the moment Glyn Hobbs blazed over from six yards this set the pattern for a plethora of squandered chances. However, when the goal came it was one to savour ? a quality set piece delivery from Lee Bevan on the left was met by a powerful downward header from Shane Krac. This proved to be the highlight of the first half, though Will Stringer finished clinically to make the score 2-0 at the interval. Making seven changes for the second half a little more urgency was evident but the quality was still missing. Callington came more into the game, forcing Andy Meeds into a couple of smart saves. However, further goals from Will Stringer and Mark Conday seemed to knock the stuffing out of the home side. At this point if this had been a boxing match the referee would have stopped the contest and though Callington managed a deserved consolation goal, they capitulated at the back allowing Tavistock to score at will with two further goals from Will Stringer, a brace for Glyn Hobbs and a tap in for Ryan Honey. The only positives from this game were the important match time for a number of players, however injuries to Chris Short and Adrian Payne would be a concern to Manager Ian Southcott only seven days before the start of the new season.
