East Cornwall division one
Roche 2
Callington Town 3
CALLINGTON withstood a strong Roche fightback to win their second successive game.
Lewis Impleton was denied an opening goal for the home side on three minutes when his shot was well saved by Callington's teenage keeper Jamie Blatchford.
Callington began to press the home defence and took the lead on 23 minutes when, from a cross by Chris Holt on the left wing, Kevin Blatchford fired home. Three minutes later and it was two when a cross from the right was met by the striker who calmly fired past Jack Barbery in the Roche goal.
On the hour the game should have been won when a good move on the right saw Adam Reid cut in from the byline before cutting the ball back for Chris Truscott to fire home to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. Six minutes later and it should have been four when Kevin Blatchford was upended in the box but his resultant spot kick was well saved by Barbery.
Roche came back into the game with Impleton and a Lee Blatchford own goal from a Sean Osborne free kick late on, but the visitors held on for a valuable three points.
Holsworthy 2
Callington Town 4
CALLINGTON almost had to win this game twice in the rain in West Devon as they gained their first league win of the season to move back into the top half of the table.
Town could have been two or three up as Chris Truscott and Darren Woolley both missed good chances before Lee Blatchford calmly chipped the advancing Holsworthy keeper Steve Battam on 26 minutes to give Callington the lead.
More chances came and went for the visitors before, with three minutes gone of the second period, a great passing move from Lee Blatchford freed his older brother Kevin on the right wing. His curling cross was met at the far post by Chris Truscott who headed home. Ten minutes later and it should have been game over when another cross from Kevin Blatchford found the head of Chris Canham, who headed on for Truscott to head home his second and Callington's third.
Holsworthy, to their credit, did not lie down and within a minute they had got a goal back when their pacey winger Alex Parker created a chance down the left and eventually the ball fell to Steve Skinner who fired past the youngest of the three Blatchford brothers, goalkeeper Jamie, to give them hope.
The hope became belief with 15 minutes to go when Dean Chidley saw his header nestle in to the Town goal to make the score 2-3 and Callington were beginning to have déjà vu visions having seen games slip from their grasp already this season.
However, on this occasion, they were to prove unfounded as they effectively shut up shop and began again to create chances and from one of these Kevin Blatchford fired past Battam to give the scoreline more respectability and secure the points for the Cornishmen.
The result was not the only interesting fact tonight as Callington had three sets of brothers playing. Along with the Blatchford trio of Kevin, Lee and Jamie were the Reid clan of Matt, Adam and Tom, while there were two Truscotts in the starting line up, with Tony joining his older brother Chris.
