BUYING Time, a half-hour radio play produced, directed and acted by the Tavonians Theatre Company was given an airing in Tavistock recently. The play, under the heading of Stonesthrow Soundplays, was the first in a planned series, and its author, Kit Walkham, was among the audience which consisted of members and guests of the Tavonians. Radio plays are a new venture for the Tavonians, using original scripts with a theme that is local to the West Devon area — hence the name Stonesthrow Soundplays. Buying Time is set in Tavistock with a lot of local references and interest and tells the story of a recently redundant civil servant who decides to open a shop selling clocks. Now that the first play is completed, the Tavonians will be turning attention to suitable outlets for the whole Stonesthrow Soundplays series. These could include hospital radio stations and sound publications for the visually impaired. It is also intended that the plays will be made available via the internet, allowing them to be heard around the world. The next call for scripts is about to be issued, with a closing date of the end of July, and The Tavonians are keen to receive scripts from both established and aspiring writers.
