THE founder, and current only member of Shebbear College's brand new chess club took on 12 opposing players in the club's first away fixture at West Buckland School.

Theo Slade, aged 10, took on his 12 challengers all at once all in a line, taking only a few seconds to deliberate each move.

After a taxing 90 minutes, Theo was declared the winner of eleven of the matches, drawing the twelfth.

Theo and the college are keen to recruit new players in the hope he may have some teammates at the next fixture.
