A TAVISTOCK primary school has launched a worldwide appeal to others with the same name, in an ambitious bid to raise money.
A call has gone out from the pupils of St Peter's Junior School to every other organisation named St Peter's across the world, to donate a pound towards a £1.4-million redevelopment programme for the school.
The Pound for St Peter's Appeal is the school's attempt to raise its own money towards the project.
Staff and governors are still waiting to hear whether they will receive funding from Devon County Council for the scheme, but have decided to launch the appeal to get the ball rolling.
Letters are soon to go out to St Peter's around the world and each pound that comes back will be tracked on maps displayed at St Peter's and its infant school, St Rumon's.
This year, the money raised from the federated schools joint Christmas fair will also go towards the appeal.
