THE winner of a calendar competition organised by environmental charity Westden was presented with a goodie bag at Mary Tavy and Brentor School recently. Samantha Heelis, 10, a pupil at the school, completed a design for the calendar on the subject of climate change. On the front cover Samantha wrote: 'Use less electricity, turn off the taps while brushing teeth, try not to drive a car for a while, try everything to stop climate change.' The competition was funded by Defra's climate challenge fund. A total of 22,000 calendars have been printed — one for every household in West Devon. Claire Hariades from Westden, who organised the competition, said: 'Samantha's design was really creative and colourful — she thought about all the different aspects of climate change, for example saving electricity.' Samantha was presented with a t-shirt with her winning design printed on, £25 and a goodie bag. The two runners-up were Elizabeth Collingwood and Jessie Allen, also from Mary Tavy and Brentor School, who were presented with £10 and a goodie bag.
