TAVISTOCK businesses Amano Technologies and Condy Mathias Accountants are teaming up with Whitchurch WI to create an open air cake party extravaganza next month, in aid of learning disability charity ROC (Robert Owen Communities).
The event is being held outside Atlas House, West Devon Business Park (near Morrison's) from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday, September 4, with bunting, flags and banners to catch the eye! Everyone is invited to make a donation in return for home made cakes, cookies and muffins as well as tea, coffee and cold drinks.
Funds raised will support new experiences for the ROC Welcome Tavistock social club, to which about 60 people with learning disabilities are registered. The club currently meets on Thursday and Friday mornings at the Tavy Club and at various other locations on Thursday evenings. Graham Coiley, director of Amano, said: 'A seven strong staff team from Amano recently joined members of ROC's social club for an evening of pub skittles.
'In holding a cake party we hope to generate funds to enable a group of ROC members to take part in a new and exciting experience which has the potential to improve their lives.'
Lesley Johnson, senior manager at Condy Mathias and a member of the WI in Whitchurch, said: 'I attended ROC's motivational launch at Easter. I applaud their vision of social inclusion — for which they need the support of the whole community.
'I look forward to our event and hope it turns into a real frenzy of cake and coffee as we raise funds for this brilliant local cause.'
Calvin Lovelock from ROC said: 'I am delighted about this cake party , especially since our club members will be helping on the day. I'd be delighted to hear from anyone who wants to volunteer or help with our fundraising — on which everything depends. Just call me on 07525 411773 — or see me at the cake party!'
