BERE Alston parish hall was packed for the cabaret evening on May 6 which brought carnival week to a close. The theme was ?musicals?, chosen as a tribute to Colin Anderson and Julie Finnemore, stalwart contributors to the cabaret evenings, who both died during the past year. Members of Julie?s family and a representative of Colin?s work colleagues from Dartmoor Prison attended the evening. Acts were Bere Ferrers WI with comedy skits, including ?Flash bang wallop?, soprano Gill Wyatt, trio Tom Chapple, Emma Marker and Richard Brindley and tenor Tyrone Piper. Tom Chapple also joined with Jan Sly for ?A couple of swells?, and a piano recital by David Crocker recalled ?My Fair Lady?. Bere Alston Theatre Group presented ?The Sound of Music?, and ?Oliver? was featured by Jane Jones and chorus. Barbara Pine entertained on the accordian, Tom Chapple and Steve Clark presented a pastiche of ?Underneath the Arches? and ?Strollin?? and a local teenage group performed modern dance routines. Newly-formed Starlets dance group also took part. MC was Phil Archer. Carnival queen Danielle Gatcum and attendants Katy Hill and Jessica Griffiths presented bouquets to the accompanists. Carnival committee chair Beryl Mills thanked everyone who contributed to the carnival celebrations.
