WEST Devon Citizens Advice Bureau is celebrating the award of a small amount of funding to train volunteer financial capability trainers.

This new role is designed to enable the bureau to deliver financial education sessions to a variety of community audiences, resulting in people being more in control of their finances and avoiding issues with debt.

The grant, which is provided through the Santander Foundation, will help provide support for 48 individuals with half the sessions being aimed at frontline agency workers so that they can set their clients on the right road to good financial health at the earliest opportunity.

Two places are available for prospective volunteer financial capability trainers in January, with in-bureau sessions, online learning and sessions in Exeter being part of the training package for prospective trainers.

Mandy Kenyon, development officer for the Bureau said: 'This is a very exciting project for us at West Devon CAB. We know by the number of debt cases that we help with every year that there is a real need for preventative work.

'We are looking for two people that would like a new challenge and are interested in helping at the CAB, but perhaps are not able to offer the weekly rota commitment that is required by a full CAB generalist advisor.'

The training is set to begin towards the end of January and further details of the volunteering opportunity and the CAB selection process can be obtained by emailing Mandy on [email protected]">[email protected]
