THE BUTTERFLY Ball held at Bickham House near Yelverton raised £10,000 for Children?s Hospice South West.

The evening was a great success with almost 300 guests dancing the night away inside a decorated marquee in the grounds of the house.

More than 70 local individuals and companies donated prizes for the evening?s silent auction, which raised more than £8,000.

Rachel Dance and Sally Butcher, of the Party Business, leaders of the organising committee, said they were ?absolutely thrilled? at the success of the evening.

The money raised will be put towards the building of a new hospice for children across the region. More than 800 families in the South West have a child suffering from a life-limiting illness ? a number that far exceeds the capacity of Little Bridge House near Barnstaple, currently the only children?s hospice serving the whole of the South West.

Liz Terrett, regional fundraising manager for CHSW, thanked everyone for the staggering sum.
