COMBEBOW refuse tip, normally only open from Monday to Friday, has been a hive of activity in recent weekends.
Up to 20 lorries a day, marked 'Coastal Waste', have been arriving at the tip over the last three Sundays, a member of the public told Bridestowe Parish Council last week.
The resident said the rubbish they brought was immediately buried and he wondered what was causing the sudden flurry of activity at a time when the tip was normally closed.
Devon Waste Management managing director Richard May told the Times the activity was a result of the recent fine weather which prompted people to tackle household and garden tasks.
'It is normal household waste which has been delivered to sites on Saturdays and Sundays,' he said.
'We take it to our landfill sites at weekends and there may have been more trips recently because of the good weather which generates a large amount of household waste.'
Mr May said the lorries marked 'Coastal Waste' were part of the company's own haulage fleet.
