THE first match of Tavistock Bowling Club for the week June 1-8 saw them playing at home against a mixed team from Liskeard.
Tavistock won the match 122-97, thanks to wins on four of the six rinks played.
Skip Mike Allen and his team of Ray Meneer, Catriona Meek and Brian Preece, achieved a 31-14 winning score-line, which included a hot shot award for taking all eight shots on the 9th end of the game.
Marion Allen and her squad of Tony Coombs, Geoff Cork and Frank Welch won 18-11, while skip Pat Sykes led his team of Roy Gill, Walter Meek and Val Southern to a 23-14 winning margin.
Skip Roy Northam, ably assisted by Tom Sharp, Albert Townsend and Wendy Bloomer, won 25-10, but skips Rob Bowhay, 9-26, and Jill Lacayo, 16-22, both skipped losing rinks.
Tuesday saw two rinks of men face local neighbours, Bere Alston in an early round of the Buckland Cup.
Skip Malcolm Bloomer and his team of Der Saunders, Tony Coombs and Geoff Cork played their match on the Tavistock Green and won 21-16, while skip Mike Allen and his squad of Eric Stevens, Pat Sykes and Clive Jago, travelled to Bere Alston for their game which they won 25-18.
The men?s County Trophy team were away to Peverell Park, in Plymouth and won 107-54.
Skip Eric Stevens and his team of Clive Jago, Norman Paramor and Ernie Piper won 22-17, while skip Malcolm Bloomer led his squad of John Smith, Wallace Northey and Brian Preece to a 26-15 win.
Skip Der Sanders and his team of Phil Jury, David Perry and Lionel Sims defeated their opposition 21-11, while skip Mike Allen and his team had an overwhelming 38-11 victory.
The Ladies? section had only one match during the week which was a two-rink game away to Pymstock Bees. Tavistock Ladies lost the match when Plymstock won on both rinks.
The weekend saw Tavistock host its annual Open Four Competition which offered prize money, plus individual and team trophies.
The event attracted 26 teams and resulted in a team skipped by Mike Avent from the New Plymouth Club picking up the first prize and trophy. Second spot went to a team led by Brian James from Saltash.
