OPERATION Sunshine has expressed a 'BIG' thank you to the people of Tavistock for their help with the charity's recent appeal for wool. Plenty of large black bags, full of pristine wool, were handed into Tavistock Library by generous local residents. Operation Sunshine will give this wool to their team of dedicated knitters who make items of clothing and products for young children and adults in Africa. Linda Downing, from Operation Sunshine, said: 'We were amazed at the generosity from everyone. I want to say a big thank you to everyone who donated and to Tavistock Library, as at one stage they had more wool than books.' The knitting effort is an on-going venture by the charity and has been going on for more than 20 years. Up to the end of 2006, 1,189 cot blankets, 7,391 woolly hats, and 13,365 Oxfam jumpers for children have been knitted.
