TAVISTOCK Pannier Market is to reopen its doors for a ‘phased return’ to business this Thursday (July 2).

The market, run by Tavistock Town Council, will initially open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9am to 3pm, and will feature a changed layout inside the building to allow for social distancing.

Shoppers will be asked to only enter the building via the Bedford Square end of the market and to only use one exit point at the north elevation of the building which will be marked. There will be hand sanitising stations on each and throughout the building.

Staff have opted to try and create space inside the market rather than implement a one-way system. There will be instructional signage throughout the building and the market perimeter informing customers of social distancing, hand washing and sanitising measures in operation.

The first phase of reopening the market will be monitored and reviewed continually.

During the initial first phase, it is intended to allow free rent for a period of two weeks to those supporting the reopening and then half rate thereafter. This will also be monitored and reviewed fortnightly.

A Tavistock Pannier Market spokesperson said on Facebook: ‘We do ask that customers do not shop in groups and are respectful of our social distancing measures, our aim is to create a safe shopping environment for our traders, staff and our much valued customers. Access to the public toilets will be from the east end exterior of the building.

‘We very much look forward to welcoming you back.’
