AN event thought to a first for Tavistock has been designed to bring together women of all backgrounds and lifestyles.

‘Inspiring Women, Inspiring Women’ is a conference organised to inspire, support friendships in business, campaigning activities and family life.

But first, organiser Clair Wellsbury-Nye is asking for help. ‘Speakers and sponsors are sought for this new event, believed to be a first for Tavistock.

‘There is no specific focus to the subjects presented; everyone invited to speak will be seen as an inspiring woman and they’ll be sharing stories about themselves and the aspect of their lives that others find particularly inspirational. Speaking slots will be up to an hour, depending on the speaker’s preference.’

Two of the speakers confirmed so far are women that the Clair said she found ‘particularly inspirational’.

Tracey Wise set up Safe Gigs for Women to start conversations between musicians, venues and their audiences, to call out sexual assault at music gigs, have complaints taken seriously and action taken against culprits.

Chloe Tingle is the founder of No More Taboo, raising awareness and campaigning against period poverty across the world, including the UK.

There will also be discussion groups on broad subjects, such as intersectionality, or menopause.

Each discussion will be for an hour and each group will be up to 24 people including two to six key contributors and a facilitator.

Clair, who is a committee member for Tavistock and District Chamber of Commerce and a director of Tavistock Enterprise Hub, said: ‘Please do get in touch with your suggestions for a subject to be discussed and to express your interest in being a key contributor.’

The event will be staged on June 22 at The Bedford Hotel in Tavistock.
