A NEW scheme is to help disabled people in West Devon to set up their own businesses. The Disabled Entrepreneurs' Project will be launched in the area this April, offering information, advice and training from writing business plans to taking on your first employee. The scheme was first dreamed up five years ago by Andi Robertson, of Enterprise South Devon. Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, he discovered that disabled entrepreneurs wanted advice and guidance from advisers who were knowledgeable about both business and disability issues. Mr Robertson said he was delighted with the interest that had already been expressed in the scheme. 'We are particularly grateful to all the agencies and individuals who are referring disabled clients to us,' he said. There are almost seven million disabled people of working age in the UK. Of those, just 50% are in employment, and only 13% of those are self-employed.
