Club president David Whitcomb welcomed members and guests to the meeting, held at Taylor's Restaurant, and introduced guest speaker Johnny Kidney from Creatrix PR, representing Marchfield Properties, owners of the town's former Focus DIY?store.
Mr Kidney thanked the association for the meeting opportunity as it formed part of Marchfield Properties' legal obligation to hold public consultations ahead of a planning application.
He said a number of supermarket groups had shown interest in the site and invited members to comment or question him. They were curious as to who the interested supermarkets were, but at that time, he was unable to name them.
A major concern raised by members was the need for any use of the Focus site as a supermarket to include suitable modifications to improve access to Plymouth Road. Members pointed out that access on Plymouth Road in the vicinity of Morrisons and Lidls was already difficult and leaving the existing layout unchanged would almost certainly result in traffic chaos.
The president welcomed Peter Sleep from Mansbridge and Balment as the newest member of the association.
The next meeting will be at the Bedford Hotel, on Wednesday, March 27 at 7pm.
