WEST Devon Borough Council’s free Business Voice Forum held in Okehampton on January 6 has been hailed as a great success by all who attended.

A varied range of businesses, including retailers, caterers and consultants, were present at the forum to listen to a mix of speakers. Among those in attendance was the borough council‘s executive director and head of paid service Steve Jorden, alongside the leader of the council, Cllr Philip Sanders. Cllr Sanders warmly welcomed the guests and introduced the evening’s keynote speaker.

The forum was planned following previous discussions with the business community and by carefully listening to what their particular needs and interests. were. This approach meant that each speaker could offer help and advice tailored for local businesses.

Fleur Barr, environmental health specialist for West Devon Borough Council said: ‘The first business voice event for 2016 was a great success. The feedback from the business community was very positive.

‘Businesses enjoyed a range of topics and also had the opportunity to network face-to-face with others in a warm, friendly environment.’

Jo Macaskie from company Miss Ivy Events said: ’I enjoyed the event, we heard from a range of speakers and on topics that would be of interest to any business. Dotty King spoke with her usual passion and enthusiasm on setting up her new cakes business – Dot-Teas, which I think everyone found entertaining.’
