JEWELLERY, cash and antique furniture were stolen in three separate burglaries in the Tavistock area last week.

The incidents occurred at properties in Down Road, Whitchurch Road and Westmoor Park, some time between July 19 and July 22.

Det Con Dave Elliott, of Tavistock Police, said: 'These offences appear to have occurred whilst the elderly occupants were away from their homes and at least one burglary was committed during the daytime.'

DC Elliott said property stolen included an antique mahogany cabinet used for holding a wash-basin, a gold cross, gold four-bar gate bracelet with heart clasp, a ladies' gold Timex watch with gold expanding strap and a gold engagement ring with five diamonds.

A quantity of cash and a six-pint container of milk was also taken.

'Should anyone have any information which may be of assistance to the investigation of these crimes, please contact police in Tavistock, either in person or on 0990 777444 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111,' said DC Elliott.

He reminded the public to close windows and lock doors when away from home, and asked that people noticing suspicious incidents should report them as soon as possible, preferably with descriptions of persons and vehicles, particularly registration numbers.
