AN essential advice service in Okehampton is on the look out for volunteers to help continue its valuable work in the area.
The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) provides advice on queries on a wide range of topics, ranging from benefits, through employment, to subjects as diverse as herbalism. Volunteer advisers, however, do not need to be experts.
Barbara Osborne, manager of Okehampton CAB, said: ?No previous knowledge is needed, but it is important to be non-judgemental, have the ability to see a problem from all sides and advise the client on all aspects.?
She said clients are not told what to do, they are given options, the consequences are fully explained allowing an informed decision to be made.
Advisors get comprehensive training, including interview techniques, and on-going support.
Anyone interested in becoming a CAB volunteer or who would like to know more about the training or other volunteering opportunities should call Barbara Osborne on 01837 54840, Mondays to Thursdays.
