A BUILDER from Gunnislake has been short listed for the Jewson national Builders from Heaven competition.
Colin Clarke and Son is one of only 30 selected from hundreds of builders nationwide to go forward to the next stage of the competition.
Colin, 49, who runs his business with son Martin ? voted as National Apprentice of the Year in 1999 ? was delighted to have been selected.
He was nominated by one of his customers John Warren, a retired architect from Buckland Monachorum. Mr Warren said jobs large and small had been tackled ?with care, enthusiasm and professionalism?.
Colin was in the armed forces before following his father?s profession which was carpentry. He has 20 years experience in the building industry.
?It is very nice that the decent builders are being recognised. I want to be able to sleep at night and so I always do the best possible job for my customers,? said Colin.
The Builders from Heaven competition was launched by Jewson in conjunction with the Daily Mirror and Vauxhall. The aim was to challenge some negative perceptions surrounding the construction industry ? such as the ?Builders from Hell? TV coverage.
?There are some bad elements in our industry but there are some really good builders about ? but they haven?t been recognised,? said Colin. ?There are some excellent people around but there are some chancers out there that ruin the industry for others.?
If Colin makes it to the next stage at the end of April he will receive £500 of Jewson vouchers and a trophy. Then one of the regional winners will gain the title Britain?s Builder from Heaven and win a new Vauxhall Movano van.
