YE Oketon Lodge, the Okehampton branch of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB), celebrated its centenary last December and members used the opportunity to fund raise for a number of organisations.

The ROAB is a social and benevolent organisation, which supports charitable and philanthropic groups at both national and local level. Ye Oketon Lodge meets every Monday at the Royal British Legion Club, and on Friday December 16 the group celebrated its centenary with a dinner and dance at the Ashbury Hotel.

Grand Primo of the Grand Lodge of England, Brother Terry Billingham attended the event, and collected a cheque for the two charities he has chosen to support this year — the Grand Lodge of England Education Fund, and Whizz-Kidz. The money was raised throughout the centenary evening.

Ye Oketon Lodge has continued its fundraising, having recently donated £500 to the Okehampton Girl Guides to go towards the construction of their new hut.

Members of the lodge expressed thanks to the people of Okehampton and area for all the support given to them at fundraising events over their 100 years, and hope to continue the tradition of raising money for local causes.
