Bere Alston United 3
Bude Town 1
BERE ALSTON'S turn around in form continued with this impressive win against Bude Town, in what their manager Kevin Taylor described as one of the best home performances of the season.
Looking for back to back home wins Bere again started with a high tempo and were almost rewarded with an early goal when both Jason Cordice and Chris Bray went close opening the scoring. Dan Follett was unlucky when his close range effort was blocked but he continued his recent scoring form in the 20th minute as he latched on to Paul Simpson's through ball before supplying a cool finish from the edge of the penalty area to give Bere the lead.
Jack Dixon then pulled off a magnificent save low to his left as Bude started to threaten and Bere had Jason Clancy to thank when another Bude effort was cleared off the line.
Bere continued the first half in the ascendancy without adding to their tally and they were punished for a lapse in concentration just before the break when Steve Hackett's shot deflected off Jason Clancy and over a stranded Jack Dixon for the Bude equaliser.
Bere regained the lead five minutes into the second half when Dan Follett's header from Paul Simpson's corner was blocked and Chris Bray pounced on the rebound and fired into the roof of the net. Jason Cordice then saw his goal bound effort superbly saved by Bude's Gary Dinshaw, but Bere's third goal was not long in coming as Chris Bray was sent racing clear by Mike Curtis and shot low into the bottom corner.
With a two goal cushion Bere were now playing some neat incisive football and James Elliott was unlucky not to score when he began and finished a flowing move from one end of the pitch to the other only to sky his shot from close range.
Bude applied some late pressure but without really troubling the Bere defence any further as the home side finished the game comfortable winners.
