TWO West Devon clubs have been awarded with an internet-ready computer and broadband connection from the BT Community Connection Scheme. Horrabridge Youth Club and 2312 Training Corps in Tavistock are the winners from BT?s nationwide scheme ? 44 groups in the South West won the award. The winners will also receive Microsoft Office 2007 and access to software to enable them to build a new website for their group. Horrabridge Youth Club has been re-established for almost two years and during this time members have been working hard to improve what is offered at the club. Ben Goodman, leader of the youth club, said: ?Receiving this BT Community Connections Award means masses to the club. ?We are extremely under-resourced and the provision of a PC, and, hopefully in the following months, internet access, presents the young people using the club with access to a world of resources. We are all over the moon.? 2312 Squadron Air Training Corps are embarking on a national Air Cadet computer system called ?Project Bader? ? allowing cadets and staff to become more efficient in IT skills. Flt Lt Phil Newcombe said: ?We are also embarking on further Duke of Edinburgh skills, NVQs in aviation studies and public services, giving all the opportunity to gain further extra curricular awards worth six GCSE grades A to C by the time they enter further education or a career path. ?It also allows all cadets access to the worldwide web for educational purposes. Our cadets continue to gain success and with this BT award of the PC and the broadband connection I foresee further success.? BT regional manager Michael Dunn said the scheme was now in its fourth year and it continued to be popular ? more than 2,000 different community groups from around the country applied for an award.
