IT was a pleasure to read PMR Jenkins' timely letter in the Times (November 6) regarding the repairing of Drakes Statue at the Plymouth Road roundabout and the mural of Drake's Galleon in Taylor Square. Several people have shown an interest in replacing the mural and the Co-op — newly refurbished — has been approached for financial help for its after care. We would like a picture of the previous mural if one is available and the name of the artist whose work it was. A good idea indeed to repair the Drakes Statue and replace the mural as we think of Drake and keep his memory alive — after all, he is an important part of our heritage, born here in Tavistock. It should add interest to the Market Street and King Street shopping area — and a little more custom for the Co-op. Susan L Wallace RSPCA shop volunteer
