Devon & Exeter Senior 3
South Zeal Utd 2
Pinhoe 1
ZEAL lost 3-2 the previous week to bottom of the table East Budleigh where goals from Alan Vile and Roger White were not enough to save them from going bottom of the table. But they bounced back on Saturday with a good win against Pinhoe.
For the first ten minutes Pinhoe were all over Zeal who could not get the ball to mount any attacks. Only good defending by Zeal?s back four of Reg Wonnacott, Tom Reilly, Lee Gilbert and Arun Ditchburn kept Zeal in the game.
Nick Pollard and Harley Cann started to give Pinhoe problems down the wings.
Zeal took the lead when Alan Brimacombe chased down a ball on the right and cut inside to beat the Pinhoe keeper from a narrow angle.
The game was pretty even with Zeal looking more dangerous going forward.
The home side could have gone further ahead when good efforts from Cann and Pollard hit the side netting before Alan Brimacombe gave Zeal a deserved two-goal advantage when his shot from the edge of the penalty area went under the Pinhoe keeper.
For most of the second half Pinhoe kept coming forward and reduced the deficit to one goal with a well taken header after ten minutes.
Zeal were reduced to the odd break but always looked capable of restoring their two-goal advantage.
As in the first half the defence was tremendous and kept Pinhoe from scoring again.
This week home to Woodbury, kick-off 2.30pm.
