AN exciting and unusual evening of music for tuba and euphonium, which includes a world premiere, can be enjoyed next Wednesday February 20, at Kelly College.

Tubalaté, formed in 1991, now have an international reputation for their development of chamber music.

They have played at many UK venues, including London's Barbican Centre, Birmingham's Symphony Hall and Buckingham Palace, for the 50th birthday celebrations of Prince Charles.

The euphoniums are played by Paul Walton and John Powell and the tubas by Ryan Breen and Ian Anstee. Tubalaté have appeared on radio and TV and made several CDs.

Many composers have written works especially for them and some of these can be heard in Wednesday's concert, which includes the world premiere of 'Incantation' by Motoyuki Shitanda, who hopes to be present. Other works will be Take Five' by Dave Brubeck an arrangement of a piece by Borodin and two compositions by Michael Spakowski.

Tubalaté work extensively on educational projects and will be running a workshop for Kelly College pupils during the day.

Later this year Tubalaté will be in the USA for the International Tuba and Euphonium Association conference.

In October they will visit St Petersburg with the British Council.

The concert begins at 7.45pm in Melvin Hall, Kelly College, Tavistock. Tickets at the door are £8 (£6 concessions).
