IT was the end of an era in the Okehampton Arcade recently, when Brian Weaver closed his shop for the last time after 50 years in business.
A familiar figure in this close-knit group of traders, Brian, 66, was a popular face behind the counter of Weaver which sold cigars, tobacco and fancy goods.
To mark his retirement, Arcade traders presented him with the gift of a glass domed clock.
Brian had been in the shop for 50 years, after joining his father Horace Weaver who had taken the business over from his father.
When Brian?s father died in 1978, Mrs Margaret Booth joined the shop and she has worked there part time ever since.
She worked in the mornings and Brian?s mother worked in the afternoons until she died in 1992.
