A COFFEE morning held in Okehampton has raised £800 for Cats Protection, the UK’s leading feline welfare charity.

On Saturday cat-lovers in the town attended a coffee morning held in the Church Hall, Market Street.

Visitors bought tea, coffee and cakes in order to help raise funds for Cats Protection.

From humble beginnings in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK’s leading feline welfare charity, which help around 200,000 cats and kittens every year through a network of over 250 volunteer-run branches and 32 adoption centres.

The charity’s work doesn’t stop there, it also provide an array of cat care information via its publications, website and help line. All of which promote the benefits of neutering to prevent unwanted litters from being born and becoming the abandoned cats of tomorrow and seek to educate people of all ages about cats and their care.

Pauline Russell, from Okehamption Cats Protection, said: ‘Our Coffee Morning proved to be a very rewarding and gratifying success.

‘Thanks to the support and generosity of the public and the very gratefully received help of volunteers, this was our best result in some six years.

‘The icing on the cake came from a very loyal supporter who brought in a more than generous donation.  This, added to our takings for the morning brought in much needed funds totalling in excess of £800.

‘Again, our thanks for the support to everyone concerned!’ Picture by James Bird.
