OKEFORD Veterinary Centre?s May ?Braveheart? is a cat called Tom, who unfortunately lost an eye. The call came in to the vets? that Tom was in a bad way, so off went vet surgeon Katherine Garside and vet nurse Jane Jones to collect him. The sight that greeted them was the sort of thing normally confined to a horror movie. Tom was sitting in his makeshift bed ? a Robin Reliant ? with a prolapsed eye. Once back at the surgery, Tom was fully examined. In addition to his eye injury he had severe swelling to his face and head, a broken jaw, scuffed claws and a coat covered in fly eggs, leading staff to believe he had been involved in a road traffic accident. Tom was then stabilised, his eye removed and jaw wired. Tom is now back at home and recovering well. Owner Andrea Vanstone said she wanted to say thank you to the vets without whose care and attention she was sure Tom would have died. Photographs of Tom before he was treated can be seen in the reception of Okeford Veterinary Centre.
