A THIRTEEN-year-boy from Okehampton suffered serious injuries after falling through the roof of a warehouse on the North Road Industrial Estate on Saturday afternoon.
The boy was playing a game with friends in a private area at Thompsons Transport when he stepped onto a corrugated perspex roof and it gave way under his weight, causing him to fall 20 feet onto a concrete floor below.
Police said he sustained a fractured skull and broken ribs and was flown by Devon Air Ambulance to Derriford Hospital.
'It would appear he went on the roof with friends, intending to play a game which involved jumping off the roof at the lowest point onto the grass below,' said a police spokesperson, who confirmed the incident happened at around 2pm.
The police are warning children to keep out of areas where they are not supposed to go.
'These lads should not have been on the roof at all — the factory and premises are out of bounds and there are signs saying 'authorised personnel only,' said Okehampton community constable Dave Woodland.
'The factories have barbed wire around them to keep people out and we want children to take note of this so we can make sure that nothing like this ever happens again.'
