BERE Alston Bowling Club, promoted into the Second Division of the Plymouth Evening League at the Mayflower Centre this season, have won promotion into the first division at the first attempt. After being top of the league from February they took a draw from their last match. Press, who were second, behind by two points, with two games to play looked certain to clinch first place. They lost one and drew the other which made it all square on points but Press, with a superior shot difference, took the title. The Bere Alston team lead by Jim Finch is Richard Hewitt, Ken Wood, Geoff Manchip, Don Anderson, Brian Adams and Ken Bellchambers. Captain Jim Finch said: ?The boys are disappointed to be beaten by such a small margin but we are delighted to be promoted again.?
