TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club began their week of eight matches in seven days with a Sunday triples match at Kensey Vale. The contest ended in a 115-83 win for the Tavistock team, thanks to their success on four of the six rinks. Skip Mike Allen and his team of Pat Hoar and David Perry were five shots down at the halfway stage then picked up 18 shots to win 22-10. Skip Ron Cooper and crew of Hazel Lovell and Gordon Northey scored steadily throughout the game, to emerge 21-13 victors and skip Betty Browse led her team of John Smith and Vic Stacey to a 25-12 victory when winning ten of the 18 ends. Skip Norman Paramor and his crew of Ray Meneer and Wendy Bloomer lost 12-18 after winning only seven of the 18 ends. Joan Northey and Marlene Paramor gave support to skip Malcolm Bloomer when he won 24-12 with the opposition scoring on only six ends of the game. Skip Marion Allen and her team of Sue Silcox and Henry Lovell found themselves seven shots down after four ends and only managed to pick up four shots on the remaining 14 ends to lose their game 11-18. The men?s Tuesday evening league match against Unity Park ended in a good 89-61 win. Skip Mike Allen and team of Derek Bradford, Vic Stacey and Norman Paramor won 23-12 while skip Roy Northam and his crew of George Blackburn, Barry Chappell and Brian Davies ran out 24-14 winners. Skip Malcolm Bloomer and squad of Frank Welch, John Smith and David Perry achieved a 21-17 victory and skip Clive Jago?s team of Walter Meek, Mike Felles and Der Saunders won 21-18. The ladies? two rink home match against Yealmpton ended in a 25-44 defeat, with skip Yvonne Meneer losing 10-28 and skip Marion Allen going down 15-16. Wednesday?s five rink mixed match at Plymstock finished with an 85-98 defeat for the Tavistock team, when they lost on three rinks, won one and drew one. Marion Allen skipped the winning (22-13) rink, while skip Roy Northam drew (18-18) and skips Mike Allen (13-24), Betty Browse (17-24) and Norman Paramor (15-19) all lost. Thursday saw both the men?s County Trophy team and ladies? section teams travel to Bere Alston for matches. The ladies two rink afternoon league match ended in a 46-35 win for Tavistock after skip Marion Allen?s rink lost 21-22 and skip Yvonne Meneer led her rink to a 25-13 win. The friendly triples rink played alongside the league rinks was won (33-4) by Tavistock skip Hazel Lovell and her team. Due to heavy rain the men?s Tuesday evening County Trophy match at Bere Alston was played over an agreed 12 ends and finished in a 37-36 win for the Bere Alston men. Each team won two rinks with Tavistock skips Mike Allen (12-10) and Malcolm Bloomer (11-8) winning and skips Roy Northam (7-10) and Clive Jago (6-9) both losing. Friday?s mixed away match at Topsham ended in a 94-97 defeat for the Tavistock team, when they won only two of the five rinks played. Skip Norman Paramor and squad of Barry Chappell, Shirley Blackburn and Brian Preece won 25-17. Skip John Smith and crew of Jill Lacayo, Albert Townsend and Frank Welch won 18-17. Skips Malcolm Bloomer (19-25) Betty Browse (18-19) and Sue Silcox (14-19) all lost. Saturday saw a mixed team facing Camelford at home in a triples match which ended in a comprehensive 103-65 win for Tavistock, when they won five of the six triples rinks played. Skips Hazel Lovell (15-9) Roy Northam, (17-13), Norman Paramor (25-5), Mike Allen (18-17) and George Blackburn (16-7) all won, with only skip Der Saunders losing (12-14).
