TAVISTOCK Short Mat Bowling Club?s first match of the week saw a team of 12 players travel to Cornwall on Thursday for a three-rink match against Saltash/Wesley. Each of the three Tavistock squads had to play three short ?seven-end? matches, with all three scores added to produce an overall win/lose result. The afternoon ended in a convincing 70-38 victory for the Tavistock travellers after they won all three rinks played. Tavistock skip Norman Paramor and his team of Brenda Dennett, Anne Summers and Clifford Hicks, ended the day as 25-12 winners, after losing their first game 3-7 then winning both of their next encounters 11-5 and 11-0. Skip Jessie Swift and her team of Liz Percival, John Dunkeld and Sandra Ashe, won their first match 7-5, but lost their second game 3-4, before fighting back to win their third battle 6-5 and end the afternoon as 16-14 victors. Skip Dave Summers and his squad of Marlene Paramor, Bill Ashe and Dorice Hicks won all three of their Games (8-4, 11-2 and 10-6) to finish the afternoon as 29-12 winners. Sunday saw two teams of four Tavistock players travel to take part in the Callington Short Mat Bowling Club Tournament which is a competition that requires each team of four players to play a ?ten-end? game against four different opposing teams. Skip Ernie Piper and his team of Geoff Cork, Clifford Hicks and Hazel Lovell won two of their games (6-5 and 12-5) and lost two (3-9 and 4-9) to end the afternoon in third place overall. Skip Norman Paramor and his squad of Betty Browse, Vic Stacey and Marlene Paramor also won two of their four matches, but their poorer ?shot difference? saw them finish in fourth place overall.
