SINGLE farm payments and mounting bureaucracy will be under the spotlight at a meeting in West Devon next week. Cllr Dick Eberlie, leader of the Conservative group on West Devon Borough, has submitted a motion to the council concerning the fact that many farmers have had to wait more than a year for single farm payments from the Rural Payments Agency. Cllr Eberlie has expressed concern at the unnecessarily bureaucratic payments system. His motion has the backing of West Devon and Torridge MP Geoffrey Cox, who said: ?This is a matter of the utmost importance to farmers in West Devon and Torridge. ?I have received correspondence from many anxious farmers who are waiting desperately for news of their payments.? Mr Cox said he hoped councillors would back Cllr Eberlie?s motion when they meet next Tuesday.
