LAMERTON'S new parish hall will be opening its doors in the spring with a fully-equipped kitchen — thanks to a grant from West Devon Borough Council. The council has awarded the parish hall committee £1,435 to help towards equipping the kitchen in the new building with a cooker, fridge, cutlery and plates. Councillors were told the new hall, which has cost more than £500,000 and is expected to open in May, needs a kitchen to cater for the organisations who are expected to use the venue from Lamerton and the surrounding parishes. The hall committee also hopes to attract wedding receptions and festivals to bring in further income. Cllr Robin Pike, who represents the Tamarside ward which includes Lamerton, said: 'So much hard work has gone into this project and West Devon is delighted to be supporting a facility that will, I'm sure, become the centre of the community.' l If you are a member of a community project or sporting organisation in West Devon and would like more information about grants from West Devon Borough Council, contact West Devon Project Officer Rob Sekula on 01822 813701.
